We have partnered with Sickbay this year to bring you a special closing concert with QUINTRON & MISS PUSSYCAT, MOLLY BURCH, GRAND NATHANIEL & THE GHOSTS, and JULIE ODELL.
From New Orleans speakeasies and impromptu levee party sing-a-longs, to performing at Preservation Hall and major music festivals coast-to-coast, JULIE ODELL has been around and around, and yet for the most part remains hidden in the softest blue. She sings in childlike awe at the beauty of the world and the hope for love, yet full of the refined, time-weathered wisdom and pain that bearing such a life of honesty ransoms. Her voice calls like moonlight for desperate eyes in the darkness, and flows from impossible highs to sweet and tender lows like a speckled, golden stream from the mountain through a mother’s mouth, prayers and lullabies and exclamations sung in unison. It is essential to see Julie perform live. Her sets are disarming and transcendent, opening ears once shut and hearts long hardened, just as they are transportive, bringing the emotional wandering of worry and regret to an end for at least a moment to simply breathe in the blessing of just being alive.
In 2014 SICKBAY began hosting carefully curated house shows supporting and celebrating the local alternative creative community, and has since grown to actively producing events in a variety of traditional and non-traditional venues across the region, collaborative record making and distribution, and artist-focused promotion and management. Sickbay’s mission has always been community building and represents the efforts of an ever-expanding and diverse network of individuals committed to making Lafayette a place where we all feel at home.
