How to Make and Submit your Short Video:

Step 1 - Re-read through this entire page to make sure you understand the guidelines and have everything you need before you begin.

Step 2 - Decide if you want to create the video on your own or ask others to partner on the project (maximum 3 people)

Step 3 - Pick an idea that represents a theme that explores Lafayette and its history.  Students can consider the following questions:

Have you ever been curious about local stories or legends told to you by family or friends?  Have you ever wondered about the origins of names of buildings, parks, or local streets?  Are there landmarks in your community you would like to know more about?  Are there traditions or events that spark your curiosity?  Do you want to learn more about someone in your community that has made a difference in the lives of others?)

This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity! We encourage and welcome unique views and original ideas.

Step 4 - Use Screencastify on your Chromebook to film your project. If you have another device you would rather use, feel free to!

Step 5 - Print out your Permission Slip and Photo Release forms.

The Permission Slip will need to be signed by a parent or guardian. (Each student participating needs one)

The Photo Release will need to be signed by anyone featured in your video.

*These forms will need to be uploaded with your submission form

Step 6 - Make sure you have good lighting and sound while filming. (Click HERE for tips on lighting and HERE for tips on sound)

Step 7 - Take the time to edit your film. (For Chromebook Screencastify options, click HERE for a tutorial)

Step 8 - Ask a parent, teacher, or friend to watch your film and ask them if there is anything that they do not understand. Make changes as needed to your short film based on their feedback.

Step 9 - Get ready to submit! Save your video to your Chromebook Screencastify. Also make sure you have all of your releases and forms signed and then upload scans or photos of them to your Chromebook Google Drive.

Step 10 - Pick a team member to submit your film on this Google Form! See the checklist below of what you need to submit.

Submission Checklist:

  • Each team member’s first and last name, age, grade, school, and teacher’s name.

  • Film title, genre, and length.

  • Link to the film, and the password if you have one set.
